Dear Hamidreza
You may have heard about emerging generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, like ChatGPT, in the media lately and wondered “What does this mean for me in terms of my studies at UniSA”?
What are Generative AI tools?
Generative AI is a rapidly emerging technology that can produce highly cohesive, human-like responses to questions and prompts.
Although generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Mid-Journey or DALL-E) can often provide an impressive response or output, they can also include errors or inaccuracies and commonly do not identify the original source of the information
Can I use Generative AI Tools to Help with my Assessments?
UniSA does not intend to ban generative AI tools, preferring instead to look at how and when they might be ethically and appropriately used to complement academic endeavour.
Some courses may incorporate the use of generative AI tools into assessments. If these tools are required in your course, instructions will be explicit in the assessment description in the Course Outline.
You are encouraged to discuss any outputs (text, code, image, video, or audio) from AI tools with your Course Coordinator and your Course Coordinator will help you understand how to use generative AI technologies appropriately.
It’s important to be aware that:
• If your Course Outline indicates that the use of AI-generated tools is permitted within the context of your assessment, you must acknowledge the use of the tool(s) utilised as you would any other reference. You cannot claim AI-generated outputs as your own work.
• If not permitted, submitting or presenting work that has involved significant assistance from a third party, including generative AI tools, constitutes academic misconduct, as outlined in the Academic Integrity Policy.
